The Search For Lentils in Leggings

In my last post I mentioned my clean eating detox that I'm doing for the next two or so weeks. I made split pea soup and as the male said, "it tasted like sadness". I'm not even going to argue on that. I really went off the rails on that one, so we have decided to throw it all out and just replace it with responsibly raised salmon and veggies. I just cant take any more disappointing soups, guys.

The first of about 4 margaritas

Before I went on this crazy journey, my friend and I had to go grocery shopping because if there is one thing I don't keep in my pantry, its split peas.  We decided to have a last meal of sorts after shopping at a Latin food restaurant called Gloria's. I needed an outfit that worked for wandering around Trader Joe's looking for kale and lentils but transitioned into a Saturday night dinner out.

I decided on my leggings and hi-low top (all Torrid) because it is both a little trendy and oh so comfy. This outfit transitions so well because of the all black. I have worn it to house parties, I have put on a body chain and heels and worn it out to the bar, and I have worn it with flats like below and a scarf to run errands on the weekends. Super easy, super comfortable and the long shirt hides the booty for any girls with lingering fears of wearing leggings as pants.

Note: The top, belt and shoes have since sold out, but I'll put links below to similar items. Leggings are a great staple piece, but be careful- these aren't super high quality leggings from Torrid. If you are wanting to invest in a good pair, Id suggest a ponte knit.

Turns out I'm fat, now what?

We are switching it up today! It rained all weekend and now its freezing out! It has made me ponder all of life's big issues. You know how it goes, rain on the window, dog being a jerk, mad that you made the clean eating commitment as you stare into your veggie chili with an empty soul. It all made me think about a (pretty great) post I read by the Militant Baker the other day addressing why some people hated the Tess Munster news. (If you havent heard, it was that Tess scored an AMAZING contract with a major modeling agency. First ever of her size...my size.)

There were quite a few people that (okay, a whole lotta people!) voiced their opinion on Tess being fat. It reminded me of all the times similar things had been said to or about me. Am I fat? Hell yes I am. Do I care if that makes you uncomfortable? Absolutely not. Tess and Jes are an amazing mouthpiece for women of every size and they preach body acceptance so the girl that thinks her knees are too knobby will learn to love them and the little fat girl getting bullied at school has someone to look at and see the future isn't bad at all. Its a controversial topic for some reason. Funny how that is. It is controversial to tell others its okay to love themselves.

Work Outfits Under $100

Surely you saw my emphatic post on Facebook about the Lane Bryant sale. I posted a blouse and skirt perfect for work and they were $15.00 each. Yeah, you heard me. If you're not following me on Facebook, that is what you're missing! If you're not following me and have now realized you should be, click here.

Anyway, it inspired me to do a follow up to my Under $100 Party Outfit post. I spend most of my time dressing during the week getting ready to go to the office. I spend almost 2 hours every morning getting ready- crazy right? You're right. I'm insane, but I like to really savor the moment. I do a lot of wandering around the house, in fact most of it is spent wandering. You know, make a smoothie, take a bath, get the perfect wing on my liner, talk to the dog, sing and dance, forget why I went into the bathroom 5 times... its a process.

I digress (staying focused is a chore right now!). Moral of the story is that if I'm going to spend so much of my life at work (or getting ready for it), I want to look great without spending all the money I make on clothes for it. Keep in mind that at a lower price point, you wont be getting the same quality you would get if you bought a $300 suit. H&M and Target are where I picked from this time, and from what I have experienced they hold up fairly well for what you pay for them.

Both of these outfits work for a business casual office. Add a structured blazer to the top option and you have something that could work for a business professional environment. A casual office? Well, swap pants out with your favorite jeans and you're ready to go! (I do envy the lady that gets to wear jeans to work!)
