Quick Tips: Wide Leg Pants

Wide leg pants are hinting around at coming back into the spotlight. Flares are flirting with the Fall trends and what we knew as goucho pants (now cleverly renamed cullottes as to disguise themselves) have been trying to sneak in behind their more attractive cousin wide leg trousers. Club Elle is not allowing gouchos into the dress code, especially the short ones. They are a general nuisance.

I love the wide leg pant/crop top combo but as a plus size girl that wants the most flattering fit I've given myself some guidelines that I thought I'd share with you. Remember that I subscribe to the rule of "if you like it, wear it" so these are not must-do's, merely what I look for or avoid when putting together a look I love.

1.) Pick your fabric. If I'm going with a crop top that shows more tummy, I want to have a nice structured or loose fit for my bottom half. It all goes back to the rule of balance. I generally avoid clingy fabrics, but if your tummy is ready to be shown off, clingy could be your game changer.

2.) Look for a high waist. Often if you are wanting a little more coverage (not everyone is ready to have that VBO ((visable belly outline)) I understand!) search for something with a cinched waist that sits a little higher. often you'll get more room in the tummy area.

3.) Pick your fit for the occasion. A flowy linen pant is perfect for a casual day whereas you can pull the structured pant out for something professional or even a night out.

4.) Length is important. A bunched bottom can ruin the sharpness of the wide leg. It takes the look from perfectly polished to slouchy. A too short leg (which I dont think I've ever had the pleasure of having) cuts the flow off and brings in a disjointed look.

I'll stop here because I feel like if a pair of pants needs too many rules, it either belongs to Satan or in Kanye West's collection. I don't have time for either of those things. The links to shop the pants featured in this post are below:
